Among the 200 Jesuit universities in the world, around 55 have an engineering school
The International Association of Jesuit Engineer Schools (IAJES) promotes the development and growth of our society through academic activities, research and social action. IAJES seeks a more humane and just world through the use of technology and innovation under the guiding principles of the Society of Jesus.
The objectives of IAJES are
To know, to share and to learn from positive experiences in education, research, innovation, and service within our universities, for the purpose of forming engineers inspired by the Jesuit tradition.
To promote the care of the whole person in all our interactions and experiences.
To propose and work on interdisciplinary and multi-campus projects addressing the needs of marginalized individuals and communities, using the knowledge of science and engineering.
To sustain a worldwide community of engineering educators, which is driven by a living sense of fellowship, belonging and solidarity.
The IAJES roadmap, proposed by the IAJES Executive Committee, outlines the plans and goals for the development of IAJES from July 2022 to July 2024. The roadmap is based on the organizational structure established by the Executive Committee, which includes various committees and representatives, as well as the involvement of members from Jesuit engineering universities.
The primary focus of the roadmap is to make the organization operational, strengthen relationships between IAJES and IAJU, identify projects for members to participate in, promote the development of the IAJES network, and prepare for the IAJES summit in India in July 2024.
To achieve these goals, the Executive Committee plans to ensure that every member fulfills their role, check the progress of actions and suggest improvements to the organizational structure if needed. They also plan to connect some of the IAJES and IAJU task forces, increase communication through IAJU, and participate in the Governing Board of IAJU.
In addition, the Executive Committee plans to identify the expectations of members and develop projects such as student challenges, mentoring programs, virtual congresses, technical talks, webinars, and peer-to-peer groups. They aim to promote the development of the IAJES network by informing Jesuit engineering universities about the benefits of being part of IAJES, getting more members involved in projects, and establishing a pool of universities committed to IAJES development.
Overall, the IAJES roadmap serves as a guide for the development of the association, with the goal of creating a dynamic and active network of Jesuit engineering universities.
