The Latin American Federation of Jesuit Schools (FLACSI) has presented the document “Committed to Improvement: proposals for schools,” through the School Management Quality System (SCGE). The aim is to provide a working tool for schools, encouraging constant evaluation, reflection and improvement; inspired by Ignatian qualities.

The SCGE is a system of evaluation and improvement of educational quality with a focus on holistic student learning, and has accompanied schools since the beginning of the pandemic, providing spaces for consultation, workshops and exchanges to respond to the needs and concerns in the current school context. Its development involves all members of the educational community: students, educators (teaching and non-teaching staff) and families; and around 40 schools in different countries are already working on the proposed Self Assessment-Improvement-Evaluation Cycle.

The final document, provided by FLACSI, includes detailed proposals for accompaniment and the steps and elements to carry out the SCGE in one or two cycles. These proposals are organised along three lines: training and technical updating, school management projects and collaborative team of schools.

What is required to participate in an SCGE improvement cycle?

It is essential that the school’s management team analyses the feasibility and conditions for carrying out the process, for which motivation and willingness are required. Schools are committed to taking care of and promoting this interest during all the steps of the process. Once the decision has been made, an agreement must be signed between the school and FLACSI, detailing the scope, commitments, timetable and the external team that will accompany the process.

The SCGE has a team of management and support professionals who are responsible for general management, institutional coordination and the implementation of the system in different networks and centres. It also has a team of 48 specialised facilitators from the different FLACSI networks who accompany and support the process in the different schools.

In the document Committed to Improvement: proposals for schools, you can find the proposals for accompaniment that FLACSI has available to schools, regardless of whether or not they have previously participated in the SCGE, as well as the steps and components for implementing the System in its entirety, whether in a first cycle or second cycle of Evaluation and Improvement.
