The Communications Office of the Curia in Rome organised the first global meeting of communicators from Jesuit provinces around the world and their international networks. It was a richness to be able to meet 80 Jesuits and lay people who, from the most diverse places on the planet, contribute to spreading the Mission of the Society of Jesus both locally and from a global vision.
The meeting, led by John Dardis SJ, director of the communication office of the curia in Rome, focused on the new communication tools generated by the Rome office, in particular a shared and collaborative image and video bank for the use of these materials by SJ communicators. In the small group meetings, the very different needs, diverse audiences and resources that each of the communication offices manage, depending on the country and the context in which they are inserted, were glimpsed.
Prior to the meeting, a survey was carried out on the teams, communication channels and future forecasts, where it was found that the most used social networks are, in this order, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, that team budgets are low and that these are usually made up of between 2 and 5 people. There was also a desire to improve the implementation of more professional videos and to reach new audiences, in particular young people, as well as a desire for more training, especially in the development of joint communication strategies. Next meeting will take place in February.
