The Congregation of Procurators, in which more than 100 Jesuits from all continents will participate, is an essential governing body of the Society of Jesus, and is meeting this month in Loyola, Spain. The assembly is made up of one delegate from each of the Society’s Provinces and Regions, plus Father General and his Assistants, and began with an eight-day retreat, May 6-14, followed by the Congregation, May 15-21.
A key moment will be the presentation of De Statu Societatis by Father General Arturo Sosa. Among other topics, De Statu Societatis will reflect on the Universal Apostolic Preferences and how they are shaping our life and mission.

The Congregation of Procurators is not an isolated event. It follows extensive discernment at the local level through the Provincial Congregations. In addition, after his election, each Procurator has toured his Province, listening and discerning with communities and individuals. These visits culminated in a written report to Father General and each Procurator will have the opportunity to discuss his report in a private meeting with Father General during the Loyola meeting. This process has resulted in a wealth of information about how the Society is moving forward and how it is responding to new calls. After the Congregation, Father General will ask the whole Society to reflect on the de statu Societatis and to discern how to deepen the way forward in our life and mission.
In particular, you are warmly invited to join the morning prayer of the Congregation which will be live streamed every day at 09.30 from May 16-21 inclusive (Central Europe time). The video of the prayer will be available afterwards on the special CP 71 communications site where a variety of photos and other documents can be viewed and downloaded.
