The Global Jesuit Education Network keeps growing and the notion of how big is often lost. Educate Magis tells that many families estimate that there are 10 or 20 Jesuit schools in the world, when in fact there are more than 2,500 in our global network! This updated map brings together all the educational institutions and facilitates the vision of networks.
Without a doubt, maps are a very useful tool to understand international networks, but not only that: they help us understand the scope of the Company, of which we are part, and to find our place in it. In this case, this map developed as a collaboration between the Secretariat for Higher Education and the Secretariat for Education (Secondary and Pre-secondary) of the Society of Jesus and produced by the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU) and Educate Magis, brings together the different Jesuit education networks of the six Jesuit conferences around the world.
Our Global Jesuit Education Network in 2020 represents:
2,700+ institutions and education projects
200,000+ Faculty and Staff
3.3million+ Students
100million+ Alumni
90+ countries
The Global “Combined” Map illustrates the rich heritage of the Society of Jesus of educating persons for and with others across the word and demonstrates the global connectedness of all Jesuit educational institutions. Whether a student enrols into a Jesuit University, studies at a Jesuit School or attends a course in a Jesuit Refugee Service Education Project or learns at a Fe y Alegría School they are all part of the same global network and community, they will find that these educational institutions share in the same Ignatian DNA inspired by the contemplative spirituality of St. Ignatius and reflective and action oriented Ignatian pedagogy.
Illustrating this relationship, mapping it, gives rise to a symbol of this shared identity and companionship in mission, as well as of the richness and diversity of the cultures represented. It has a very powerful practical sense: it serves as an object of research and learning, representing a horizon yet to be discovered; it allows us to place ourselves within the great network that we form and aspires to inspire learning, connecting and exchanging with others in our global community.
You are invited to print and post this map and explore it with parents, students, and colleagues. See what it does to them, what makes them feel part of something so great.
