The Jesuit Conference of South Asia accounts for close to 25 percent of the whole Society and the majority of the 4,027 Jesuits are from India. 

As our mission and vision we emphasized the need for and importance of a more meaningful Community Life so that we are better prepared to face key challenges in South Asia.

The thrust areas identified by us include: Displacement and Migration, Environmental Concerns and Fundamentalism.

To face these situations today the Society of Jesus sends every Jesuit to the frontiers (GC 35.3) to be 'a fire that enkindles other fires' (GC 35.2).
