Mission Statement

The mission of the Society of Jesus in Latin America and the Caribbean is to announce the person of Jesus Christ, animated by the power of the Spirit, to witness the values of the Father's reign, from the Church and in collaboration with others. For this, in the midst of the variety of our peoples and cultures deeply crossed by injustice, we are called from our spirituality to manifest the life of God in the midst of our history, being at the side of the poorest and most excluded, promoting justice that springs from the faith, collaborating in the formation and education especially of youth, promoting intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, and committing ourselves to our Latin American and Caribbean integration.

Description of the Network

The Conference of Provincials in Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL) was created with the purpose of promoting coordination and collaboration among the Provinces and Regions of the Society of Jesus in Latin America and the Caribbean.

It was created in 1999 confirmed by the words of the previous General Congregations (31 to 34), inspired by the example of provinces and regions of other contents, and thanks to the decision of the Jesuit Superiors to respond more effectively to apostolic challenges that go beyond the provincial and regional contexts.

Objectives of the CPAL:

  • Encourage greater unity, communication and common vision among all the Jesuits working in Latin America.
  • Assume the six apostolic priorities of the PAC establishing joint actions and a more rational and effective use of human and material resources.
  • Develop and implement interprovincial projects and, eventually, establish common works and houses to meet the needs of the region.
  • To foster solidarity and mutual help among the Provinces of Latin America, and between them and those of other continents.
