The Global Map of Jesuit Social Centers 2023 is now available on the SJES website. The online map includes 275 social centers from six Jesuit Conferences, displayed in different colors, giving a global image of the unity and universality of the Jesuit mission of Justice and Ecology.
On 3 February 2023, we launched the first Global Map of Jesuit Social Centres with Fr. Arturo Sosa, Superior General inaugurating it. In his inaugural message, he said, “The effectiveness of the map as a working tool to facilitate communications between centres and establish advocacy links depends, in addition to its constant use, on the regular updating of information.” Hence, this update for 2023 is made possible thanks to the support from the directors of social centres and the Province and Conference Social Secretaries.
The interactive map provides easy and simple search options. To search by the activity of social centres, for example, the 13 alphabetically arranged filters—ranging from “Advocacy” to “Women”—can be used to locate, identify and contact a specific centre quickly and build bridges for better collaboration and advocacy networking. The numbers on the map reveal the cluster of social centres in that area. Depending on the zooming level, the numbers will divide into smaller numbers until one sees the SJES logo, showing a single social centre. One can also use the + and – option to zoom in and out or use the Home icon to see the entire map quickly.
The map also features a visual search option where users can zoom in on the map to find the exact geolocation of the centre and information about a specific Jesuit Social Centre. Clicking on a plotted centre will reveal its name, address, website, contact information, and the Director. An icon additionally categorises the centre’s commitment to the four Global Ignatian Advocacy Networks (GIAN) – Ecology, Migration, Justice in Mining, and Education.
For those interested in exploring and connecting with any Jesuit Social Centres and their work, visiting the SJES website provides access to this updated and comprehensive resource.
