20 May 2021 marks the beginning of the Ignatian Year, the 500th anniversary of an experience that transformed Ignatius of Loyola, and gave rise to a spirituality that has facilitated the encounter with God for many people from generation to generation.
It is not only a celebration, but also an opportunity to remember a historical event of universal importance, to actualise that experience in ourselves, in our relationship with God, with others and with creation, and to see all things new in Christ.
This commemoration has mobilised the whole Jesuit network, provinces, conferences and networks, with many initiatives to celebrate together. Most events and initiatives will be asynchronous or streamed online so that anyone who wants to participate can do so.
Father General expressed his joy for the active participation of the whole Ignatian family, for “working together to rediscover our roots and thus renew ourselves and our outlook to the world“. We are all called to collaborate in this celebration: Jesuits, lay people, youth, religious and those who, from other beliefs or human convictions, participate in the same struggle.
For the beginning of this Ignatian Year, the General Curia invites us to the global prayer “Pilgrims with Ignatius”on 23 May, the day of Pentecost. The whole Ignatian family, from all parts of the world, is called to this celebration. Find out more here.
In Jesuit Network we will gather all the collaborative initiatives proposed by the Jesuit network in the framework of the Ignatian Year. Here are some of them:
If you know of more initiatives that could be open to international or intersectoral collaboration, please let us know. Let us celebrate together, in a network, this opportunity for unity and to see all things new in Christ.
The Jesuit.Network project is was launched in 2012 to promote reflection on the topic of networking and to accompany and foster international collaborative initiatives within the Society of Jesus and the Ignatian Family.
