The Jesuit Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) has developed an interactive map showing the location and activities of its social centres around the world. This map is a very useful tool for those who wish to know the SJES social centres and the activities in which they are involved.
To access the map, simply visit the SJES website at here. The map can be found on the home page, under the Testimonies section. The map is available in four languages: English, Spanish, French and Italian.
The map is coloured according to the Jesuit Conferences and shows the location of the social centres within the Conferences. There are also numbers on the map representing clusters of social centres. Depending on the zoom level, you can see clusters of social centres in a block. Clicking on the number splits the cluster into a smaller group to show each centre individually. Clicking on the icon of a centre will display information related to that centre, such as the name, address, name of the director and a website, if available. If there is no website, contact details such as telephone number and email address are provided.
The map can be zoomed in and out by scrolling. There is a start button in the top left corner that takes you to the globe level. If you zoom out far enough, the Conferences colour disappears and changes to a normal map.
An important feature of the map is the filter, which allows users to search for social centres according to the activities they are involved in. There are 13 different activities, such as advocacy and networking, culture and communication, ecology, education, training and capacity building, health, human rights and law, indigenous and minorities, migration and displacement, mining, research and publishing, welfare and rehabilitation, and women. When you click on an activity, the map filters all centres according to that activity. If a centre is doing different activities, it will be shown in each of the filters.
It is important to note that the map data is up to date as of June 2022. SJES plans to update the map once a year, but they are also willing to add information at any time. If you do not see your centre on the map, you can submit the information and they can still add it.
In summary, the SJES interactive map is a useful tool for exploring the location and activities of Jesuit social centres around the world. The activity filter makes it easy to search for centres according to the activities they are involved in, and the information is regularly updated to ensure accuracy. If you are interested in learning more about Jesuit social work, feel free to consult the map on the SJES website.
