November 29 and 30, 2022 were days of meeting and a lot of excitement for the young people of the Generation 21+ Network in Chad. Four educational centers in the province of Guéra, three of them belonging to the Fe y Alegría network, met in the city of Mongo for the first time to officially launch this international network of youth participation in the country.
50 young people and 5 educators met for a whole day and got to know each other for the first time, sowing the seeds of friendship, enthusiasm, youth participation and networking that has already begun to flourish in this region of Chad. The participating schools were:
The Fe y Alegria Community College of Madgoro
The Fe y Alegría Community College of Tchélati
The Saint Oscar Romero College of Mongo
The Fe y Alegría Community High School-College of Mongo.
During the day of the 29th, the young people were working on the global, national and local challenges that most concern them, and learning about the connections between desertification in Chad, forced migrations, and gender inequality that affects girls and women in the world, among many other problems. They organized themselves into groups to learn about updated data on these challenges, which reflect the same ones that the Generation 21+ Network works on at the international level in more than 15 active countries.
In addition, at this regional meeting, which was held for the first time in Fe y Alegría Chad, the young people were trained in the tools of the Generation 21+ Network to design and carry out actions to transform these global and local challenges. With these tools, they were able to prepare an agenda of priority activities in each educational center to be carried out in the coming year, including awareness campaigns on violence against girls, artistic actions to promote the right to education, and volunteer clubs for environmental protection.
November 30, 2022 was an even more exciting day. The Liceo-Colegio Comunitario Fe y Alegria de Mongo welcomed more than 200 people for the official Launching Ceremony of the Generation 21+ Network in Chad, among them the young people from the four centers that are already part of it. This event has been prepared for months with young representatives, teachers, and the referent of the Network at national level, Emmanuel Tambaye, along with the accompaniment of Veda Krüger, partner of Entreculturas Fe y Alegría Spain, as a country that also participates in the Generation 21+ Network.
State authorities, local schools and Fe y Alegría staff in Chad also participated in the event. This official launching ceremony of the Generation 21+ Network in Chad began with welcoming remarks by the Director of the Lycée-College Fe y Alegria de Mongo Lycée-College Fe y Alegria de Mongo, Djisso Thomas Morus, SJ; followed by those of the Executive Director of Fe y Alegria Chad, Tsayem Dongmo Saturnin, SJ, and those of the national referent of the Generation 21+ Network, Emmanuel Tambaye; and culminated by the words of the young leaders of the Network in each school, who presented their motivations and objectives as a group to transform their local and global environments.
And there was no shortage of arts as an engine of transformation! The ceremony included several performances by the young people, including plays highlighting the four priority challenges of the Generation 21+ Network: the right to education, gender equality, environmental protection and the culture of peace. Inspiring poems and dances were also read to express their deep commitment to the Network. Likewise, there was a time of exchange with the guests to express themselves about the Generation 21+ Network.
Many people and authorities expressed how happy they were to welcome the official launch of the Generation 21+ Network in Chad for Chadian youth. The last word of the ceremony went to the Executive Director of Fe y Alegría Chad, who made a strong appeal to young people about the importance of this network, which will allow young people in the country to meet, network and discuss the issues that concern them, define in network the objectives to be achieved by this movement, and their role as young people in defending the right to quality, inclusive and participatory education in the country and in the world.
