Colombian Amazon: Urgent request for indigenous peoples

A group of anthropologists linked to the Amazon, concerned about the serious threat to the life and permanence of indigenous peoples due to the pandemic, have prepared this letter addressed to the Constitutional Court of Colombia requesting urgent measures to prevent the genocide of the indigenous peoples of the Colombian Amazon. The letter was signed by indigenous authorities and organizations, civil society organizations, academics, researchers and professionals at both the national and international levels.

This document contains a diagnosis of the main risks and effects currently facing the indigenous peoples of the Colombian Amazon with regard to the health emergency caused by COVID-19, a situation that reveals the structural social, climatic and economic crisis, as well as the obstacles preventing the provision of comprehensive care and protection for indigenous peoples and the fulfillment of their rights under national and international law.

We invite individuals and organizations to show their solidarity with this initiative and to help us make it known and disseminate it.
