Closer collaboration between Jesuit Missions UK and Ireland

Directors of Jesuit Missions UK (Paul Chitnis) and Ireland (Fr John Guiney SJ) recently met in Dublin to discuss their strong desire and commitment to create a closer collaboration between the two Jesuit development offices. Both are part of the larger existing Xavier Network group, which is a partnership between Jesuit organisations across Europe, Australia and Canada.

By collaborating on certain issues, it is thought that the two offices will be able to increase the impact of their activities especially looking at three regions of the world where both currently have a presence and already share partners and projects. These are Southern Africa (Zambia and Malawi), South Sudan and China. The International Programmes Officers from both organisations will begin to work together on this.

Paul Chitnis, Director of Jesuit Missions UK, says, “Whilst respecting the distinctive differences between our two offices, we also recognise the increasing trend in our provinces towards closer, and even joint, working structures. We are committed to working more closely together where there is added value for ourselves and our partners in doing so.”

In addition, new opportunities of collaborating on volunteering opportunities for young people across both the UK and Ireland was also discussed.
