Social Institutions from the Jesuit Conference of Canada and United States, in coordination with the Red Jesuita a Migrantes in Latin América have created a campaign of story-telling to promote hospitality and community with refugees and migrants amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we encounter people in migration through reading and listening to the testimonies of the Solidarity Across Borders campaign, we remember that we are a community and only in a community can we move forward without leaving anyone behind.

In that spirit, through this campaign partners throughout Central America and North America join to promote solidarity and hospitality and grow in empathy for refugees and people in migration in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Introduction Video from Fr. Timothy Kesicki, S.J.,
President of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States

One of the most impressive dimensions of the campaign are the testimonies from migrants on their experience crossing the borders or stories from essential workers in the United States: “While supply chains struggle under the weight of the coronavirus, Hugo Susano, Rogelio Hernandez, and Ramiro Alvarado Cruz, are working hard to harvest the fresh produce bought at grocery stores across America. All three men are agricultural guest workers from Mexico who come every year to harvest apples and cherries in the state of Washington.”

The campaign also offer possible action calls, providing ideas, materials and practical ways to implement them. The “Take Action” Section includes (1) Support Jesuit Ministries Serving Migrant Populations, (2) Host a Prayer Vigil or (3) Write a letter to a detained migrant.

The institutions involved are Ignatian Solidarity Network, the Jesuit Conference Office of Justice and Ecology, JRS USA, Kino Border Initiative and Magis Américas.
