WUJA Congress 2017, a global conference of Jesuit alumni and friends is being held June 28 — July 2, 2017 at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. WUJA stands for the World Union of Jesuit Alumni and its conference brings together current and former students and friends of Jesuit schools and universities throughout the world in an effort to build international relationships, to contribute to the mission of the Society of Jesus and to promote Jesuit education. Congresses are held every four years for this purpose.
The World Union of Jesuit Alumni (WUJA), founded in 1956, holds an international Congress every four years to gather Jesuit friends and alumni—from as many as 50 countries representing a global network of Jesuit ministries—to build international networks and affirm Jesuit centric values for a greater good.
From June 28-July 2, 2017, WUJA will meet for the first time ever in North America, at John Carroll University, in Cleveland, Ohio. WUJA 2017 will gather renowned, world-class speakers committed to Uniting Our Jesuit Frontiers in the arts, business, science, law, spirituality, theology, faith and leadership, service, and justice. The new Superior General, Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., will participate via live video feed from Rome, and other keynotes include Fr. Timothy Kesicki, S.J., Mr. Chris Lowney, Fr. Gregory Boyle, S.J., Ms. Katherine Marshall, and Fr. Peter Balleis, S.J. A host of other men and women, connected to Jesuit education from around the globe, will speak and share as well.
Watch the WUJA Welcome from Rev. Robert L. Niehoff, S.J.
The Union was founded in Bilbao, Spain in 1956 in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of St. Ignatius Loyola’s death. Past conferences have been held in Rome, Versailles, Loyola- Bilbao, Sydney, Kolkata, Bujumbura and Medellin. Again, this year’s event in Cleveland marks the first time that the Congress has been held in North America, and it will be at least 20 years before it may return. Attendees, made up of alumni and friends of Jesuit institutions, will enjoy countless opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate, providing a unique platform for participants to take shared experiences back to their country to help shape our society for the common good. The organization invites you and your organisation as a whole to join in what is sure to be a formative and fun event for all those who are engaged in and committed to Jesuit ministry. Should you choose to send a delegation from your institution for this spiritual experience, please know that group rates are available. Be sure to visit the event website at http://www.wujacongress2017.com/ to learn all the details.
On our behalf, the Jesuit Networking project coordinator, Dani Villanueva SJ will be one of the keynote participants in the Congress where, along with Dr. Tina Facca-Miess, will be sharing about the preliminary results on the Jesuit Collaboration and Networking Survey. The survey that was launched in May at the global level seeks to get an empirical insight of the quality and level of engagement of Jesuits and collaborators in the Society of Jesus’ mission. The survey will continue to be available for participation until August 31st. For more information, visit survey.jesuitnetworking.org
